To Write Love on Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.  TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

Jeffrey Lewis is an anti-folk songwriter and comic-book artist from New York. Recording, often, in lo-fidelity, Lewis performs narrative songs of much humor and detail, owing an obvious debt to the likes of Jonathan Richman. Former Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker has called Lewis “the best lyricist working in the US today.”
Taking a leaf from comic artists like Harvey Pekar and Joe Sacco, Lewis mixes autobiographical songs with ridiculous fantasies. “Some of the songs are very autobiographical, and some of them are about zombies and time machines,” Lewis told the BBC. “I guess with all my stuff there tends to be a pretty clear split. The stuff that’s true is, like, really true and the stuff that’s not true is really not true.”

The Morning After seamless blends an eclectic variety of musical styles to form one of the most unique, infectious sounds on the scene today. Lead vocalist, Rachel Koontz employs a commanding, soulful style reminiscent of Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. Classically trained violinist Pattie Hopkins adds a precise instrumental ability combined with a soulful voice that compliments Rachel’s voice exactly. The backline of Jamie Dawson on bass and Mike Rosado on drums evokes the Motown sound o the 60′s with a Latin feel. The band is rounded out by virtuoso banjo and mandolin players Hank Smith and Shawn Chase who add a melodic feeling that will remind you of Bela Fleck and Chris Thile. All together, The Morning After will entertain you with a high energy, eclectic mix of soul, rock, jazz, Latin and bluegrass that makes the audience jump for joy again and again!

Andy Davis’s smart and seductive blue-eyed soul music weds indelible hooks to sly, incisive lyrics, creating songs that sound like newly minted pop-soul classics.

Papadosio is a five piece electronic rock band cultivating conscious music that purposely defies genre classification. Their music attempts to create an inspirational environment for progress and positivity. For the past 5 years, Papadosio has been creating conscious, mind expanding dance music that purposely defies classification. In an attempt to create an inspirational environment for progressive and positive thinking, this year of 2012 will see the addition of some very exciting and integral means of expressing their artistic message. Papadosio asks that everyone reevaluate the role of music and take a less nostalgic view of what has been and a more enthusiastic view of what is and what could be. As the year unfolds Papadosio encourages fans to come with open ears, minds, and hearts, and help them wake the world.

Catheter (Colorado vet. grinders) -Review of their split with FUBAR: “First up on this split is Catheter from Denver, CO – blasting through eight tracks (under the heading “Conspiracy Control”) of grind in less than 10 minutes. The tracks are pretty straightforward aside from some occasional dissonance, making use of moderate speeds and a few more obvious hardcore/punk influences as well as numerous degrees of vocal tradeoffs between growling and shouting. The best part is that the basslines totally kill (raging all over the place) and play a huge role right alongside the guitars, and the recording is pretty damn crisp as well. “Blazes of Black” has some of the largest shifts in tempo, while “My Life” opens with some quirkier riffing before plowing into an almost power violence-esque passage and vicious breakdown. The lyrics are a mixed back dealing with everything from fashion invading the underground to riding bicycles to conspiracies and corporate B.S.: “What is it that makes society strive to get bigger and better things, And all for the name of envy, all for the name of excess, The daily grind…” Good stuff.”

During the 15 years that Canada was front man for Cross Canadian Ragweed, he successfully tapped into those influences on each of their nine albums. Four of those nine charted on Billboard’s Top 10 Country Albums over the course of the years, thousands of albums were sold and the band played to sell out crowds across the country helping to spread “red dirt” music. But the one thing that Canada wanted to do in honor of his musical heartland never came to fruition…until now.

WHO: MISHKA –Internationally renowned, chart-topping Pop-Reggaeartist and the face of surf-culture clothing giant O’Neill’s new eco-friendly apparel line ECO’Neill. Chaos Destroy: (From Sorry State’s description of their split with Nekromantiker)- total chaotic noise here… it’s like they’ve never heard a band in their life other than Confuse. Aesthetes may scoff, but these guys are doing their thing and they’re among the best at it. Insane noise punk by some of the least likely “cool” raw punks. Their more recent transition has been to bubbly, melodic noise punk. So fucking good and if you don’t get it then fuck off.
Merciless Game – Dan from Lotus Fucker’s one-man band that will be performed with people from Chaos Destroy and xBrainiax. Harsh, noisy Gai-influenced japanese noise punk. Very obscure and of course anything that Dan does involves much deliberation and thought. Not to be missed.

Cherub is a sexy, avant-garde, electro-pop duo that is the dance love-child of 80′s funk, and pop-music from the future. The members of Cherub, Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber, share a love for honest original music and vibrant live performance, with a common goal to share a little bit of sex, a little bit of drugs, and a whole lot of love with people across the globe. Cherub’s music is a fresh electrified take on risqué pop music that brings to mind timeless artists like Prince, Zapp and Roger, and more contemporary Justin Timberlake. With a live show that is bouncing with energy, Cherub dances their way into the hearts of audiences from the first falsetto hook, until the very last delay filters out.
After completing studio work for Cherub’s first release, Man of the Hour, singer/ songwriter Jordan Kelley joined forces with fellow producer/performer, Jason Huber, to polish Cherub’s live electro act and begin performing throughout the Southeast. Both Jordan and Jason have received recognition as producers and live musicians, previously performing as Schtompa and I.V.Y. League alongside renown acts, such as EOTO, Boombox, Count Bass D, GZA of Wu Tang Clan, Two Fresh, and many more. Since Cherub’s formation in late 2010, the band has shared the stage with highly regarded acts like Alex B, Big Gigantic, Bag Raiders, Miami Horror, and many others. The duo is looking forward to a number of high profile live dates throughout the fall of 2011, including a Halloween show supporting Pretty Lights in the band’s hometown, Nashville, TN.

Started by front man Patrick Keenan in 2006, The Winter Sounds quickly gained a reputation as one of the ‘must see’ bands of the crowded music scene in Athens, Georgia. Known for their frenetic live performances, the band blended the danceable post-punk of pioneers like Gang of Four with more contemporary electro-pop to forge their own unique sound. In 2007, The Winter Sounds signed with Atlanta-based Live Wire Records and recorded Porcelain Empire, their first full-length album. Post-roots trio Dangermuffin casts a fresh perspective on American roots music. Based in Folly Beach, SC, the group is anchored by the thought-provoking lyrical wit of songwriter Dan Lotti and framed by Nashville-veteran percussionist Steven Sandifer and fluid lead guitarist Mike Sivilli. Since 2010, SiriusXM radio has been proudly spinning tracks from ‘Moonscapes’ on their Jam On and Outlaw Country stations to all of USA and Canada. Dangermuffin brings a new level of groove to Americana music — a punchy, folk-jam pastry with a sweet-toothed soul of the South.

Growing up, show business was in Audra Mae’s blood. Her great grandmother, Virginia, was a member of the Gumm Sisters, whose youngest member, Francis Ethel Gumm, grew up to be Judy Garland. Her paternal grandmother turned her on to country and folk artists like Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Woody Guthrie, while her maternal grandfather introduced her to jazz.

Since arriving in California seven years ago, on Elvis Presley’s birthday no less, with the proverbial $20 in her pocket, Audra Mae has done alright for herself. She landed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell, a TV placement singing Bob Dylan’s “Forever Young” on the hit F/X series, Sons of Anarchy, and in 2009, wrote the lyrics to “Why I Was Born to Die,” the only original track on Susan Boyle’s chart-topping, 9 million-selling I Dreamed a Dream album.

Hailing from Wilmington, NC, Great Zeus’ Beard is a 3 piece experimental indie-rock band formed in 2008. Comprised of Zack Williams- Guitar, John Mousseau-Drums, and Steve Mousseau-Bass/Keys/Vocals. GZB recently released their self titled EP in early 2009. Very limited amounts of this CD are still available, but digital downloads are still available on ITunes and Amazon.com. GZB currently plans to release their sophomore album in Spring 2011.

Its members have played at such venues as CBGB’s, X-Games, 9:30 Club, Trocadero, TLA in Philadelphia, and the Middle East club in Boston. The members of Great Zeus’ Beard decided to leave their previous projects, to focus on creating something truly original and completely their own. The main goal is to do something that GZB as a band believes in, and is completely honest about, disposing of all limitations and surpassing the black cloud that has been left glooming over the music industry. GZB is taking chances musically, utilizing their different influences to create their unique sound.

Says one Carolina newbie to one Carolina native, “Dang! I knew it would be hot in the Summer down here, but I had no idea that it would get even hotter at night!!” Meteorologically speaking, there is a scientific explanation for this phenomenon. But as far as the Raleigh-based exploratory jazz trio called The Hot at Nights, there is no explanation for them. 8-string guitar virtuoso Chris Boerner leads the group, with Matt Douglas on sax/woodwinds and Nick Baglio on drums. The group melted together in Boerner’s studio over the many sweltering evenings of Summer, 2010. Though largely improvisational, the group’s compositions pull from contemporary songwriters, classic funk, pop, rock, and of course the electric avant garde stylings that have spanned the last 30 years of contemporary jazz. Complex rhythms can quickly transform into head-bobbing groove fare. Simple melodies coaxed by all three players can explode into cacophonous meteor showers at the drop of a dime. Their limits go as high as the stratosphere and deep into the Earth’s mantle. Both of which keep them sweating… even after the sun goes down.

BoomBox consists of two versatile producers, DJs, songwriters, multi-instrumentalists and longtime friends Russ Randolph and Zion Rock Godchaux. Together they develop an electronic blend of vintage Rock and Blues made to move dance floors while incorporating their signature Backbeat, Psychedelia and Funky House sounds. Applying a multi-track platform, they are free to create their hybrid style on the fly with a rhythm that moves fans and opens them up to Godchaux and Randolph’s overall vision. Derived from the rich musical history of Muscle Shoals, AL, to the psychedelic rock and underground electronic scenes of the west coast, their unique approach can only be achieved by the blending of sound and culture.

Rising out of Nashville’s thriving independent music scene, the Farewell Drifters are an alt-folk band known for their 60’s era-inspired harmonies and adventurous musical energy. They have crafted a seamless blend of intellectual psychedelic pop with melodic songs that openly explore the brightest and darkest corners of life with raw intensity. He’s the ethereal voice, songwriting powerhouse and full-contact keyboardist behind Something Corporate, the piano-rock quintet praised by one critic for its “combination of intelligent lyrics, infectious melodies, and killer piano.” Now Andrew McMahon is taking something of a spring break from the band with which he’s practically lived for the last four years in order to offer up an angst-flavored side project. In the guise of Jack’s Mannequin comes Everything In Transit, a highly personal theme album by McMahon and collaborators, from Maverick Records.

A show featuring pin-up girls who perform one sensual and amusing act after another, sinful Cabaret girls, bouncin’ Burlesque beauties, comedic Vaudeville boys, Stiltwalkers, Aerialists, and more. If you embrace the odd and unusual, the fun and fanciful, and the adventurous, this is the show for you! Local Wilmington Performer and Choreographer Foxy Roxy, began The PeepShow Cabaret in 2007. Having choreographed shows for nearly a decade, Roxy decided to create her own show. Wanting to venture out into her style of dance and theatre, Roxy created The PeepShow with a Cabaret and Vaudeville vision as the blueprint. Since the beginning, The PeepShow Cabaret has added many fun and exciting new acts to the show. Aerialists, Boylesque Acts, Noveau Burlesque Performances, and more. Now starting the year out right, they have added Stilt Walkers, Unicyclists, Mimes, and Circus Acts to the Mix.

In 2006, 3 members of Wilmington hardcore band, Clone Cycle, started a bluegrass side project. Adam Groce, who was the lead guitarist in Clone Cycle, took on the task of learning to play the banjo. Clone Cycle singer, Scottie Lynch picked up the acoustic guitar. And bassist, Ken Groce traded the 4-string electric for an upright bass fiddle. A few months later they asked long time friend and former ‘Machines Against Nature’ bassist, Dave Abeyta if he wouldn’t mind learning the mandolin from scratch. And, Massive Grass was formed. It has been a long, arduous road, but Massive Grass has made great strides. Their current set list includes traditional bluegrass songs and remakes from other genres. The band tends towards the rowdy side of bluegrass, singing songs about drinking, heartache, and even a dirty version of Froggie Went A-Courtin’. All 4 members provide vocals and harmonies. Massive Grass endorses drinkin’, partying, wild women, southern pride, and good times above all else. Their Mission: To provide ‘Grass to the Masses.

Long the bards of downward mobility, Southern Culture on the Skids have always embodied a sleazy, raucous, good-natured, good-time take on the culture of the South. Recently described by Dwight Yoakam (in Filter) as “really on the outside, like Dick Dale meets Hank Thompson,” SCOTS have mixed high and low culture for decades, endlessly touring, serving up moonshine martinis and poultry picking for fans everywhere.
Since 1983, when they formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, SCOTS have played their unique hybrid of Americana, surf, R&B, rockabilly, and swamp pop (the band describes their sound as “toe sucking geek rock – kinda weird, but it feels good when you’re doing it”), all the while driving fans into ecstatic, sweat-drenched paroxysms of joy. Assisted by his cohorts in chaos — drummer Dave Hartman and bassist/singer/heartbreaker Mary Huff — Miller and crew have been prolific and ubiquitous for over twenty years.

The Duende Mountain Duo started in late 2007 as a completely live, improvised electronic act. Now combining live instrumentation alongside computer-based production and DJ-inspired transitions, a new live show experience is formed where production meets performance. Made up of keyboardist and producer Will Little and human drum-machine, Will Stone, Duende has spent the last 4 years shaping it’s sound by pulling inspiration from all subgenres of EDM. The end result is a truly original sound with early roots inspired by French Electro House and UK Drum N Bass blended with current deeper and darker genres such as Dubstep, Glitch and Grime.

Mauser are a well-acclaimed punk band from Gainesville FL. I pleaded with them to play here on their tour so we could have at least one or two (really good) shows in December. Check them out. Here is an ep review from Maximum Rock and Roll:

“Oh shit! This record slays! Straight outta Gainesville, FL. Alright, here’s what we got: throaty and pissed vocals, with more scream and less growl, that are blown out with some reverbed and echoed effects. MAUSER has a SKITSYSTEM feel, with lyrics are about hopelessness and how a shitty job and 9-to-5 will kill you. I am a sucker for powerful drumming, and theirs is driving and simple, but with some really precise fills. It’s just as methodical in precision as Swedish stuff, but more balls and anger than study.

This sounds much like FRAMTID and a less blown out DISCLOSE, with similar guitar squeals. The leads are simple. No dick stroking here, just straight up, menacing disgust — not intended to impress, just intended to maim. Sludgy, but not indecipherable bass that might throw off your heart beat. The track “New Threats” is fucking psychotic.

This record has all the raw and anger that got me into punk in the first place. Yes, they like DISCHARGE, but they are honoring, not aping. Well done. Get this record. (Vinyl Rites)”

Josh Roberts & The Hinges formed in early 2005 in Columbia, SC and immediately began touring and recording. Embedded in their style of rock and roll are blues, country, punk and soul influences that link elegant harmonies with the raunchy guitar work of Josh Roberts. Their powerful sound is raw and uncompromising, creating new rock and roll anthems that leave their dedicated fans speechless…and sometimes exhausted, yet always wanting more.

Mandolin Orange is songwriter Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz.  The Chapel Hill, NC duo ornaments lyric and harmony focused tunes with acoustic and electric guitars, fiddle and mandolin.  Their understated instrumentation draws on bluegrass and rock-and-roll alike, keeping Marlin’s dark lyrical themes at the forefront of their folk-country sound.  Together they deliver a sound uniquely their own yet satisfyingly familiar, recently called an “unmitigated pleasure” by Rosanne Cash, who acknowledged the duo as “very exciting young people making great music”. 

Hailing from the dogwood heavy hills of North Carolina, Super-Group Kooley High arrives on the scene with the mission to delight, electrify and ignite seas of listeners thirsty for something new from the wordld of hip-hop. Since they began making music together in early 2007, the six independent members have been allowed and encouraged to let their own individual talents flourish, ensuring that the sounds coming out of the Kooley High music factory are one-of-a-kind.

It’s fair to say that IJ Quinn is a Young Soul at heart. Born and raised on a farm in the small eastern North Carolina town of Warsaw, IJ developed a musical style that draws comparisons to the R&B/Soul greats he grew up listening to (Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, EW&F and Michael Jackson), and the leading commercial songwriters of today (Maroon 5, Alicia Keys and Bruno Mars). IJ learned piano at age three, self-taught himself the guitar at fourteen, and has been a student of pop music all of his life.

Zeds Dead is an Electronic/dubstep/progressive duo
from Toronto, Ontario composed of DC and Hooks. The two have been playing sets since 2009, and producing together since 2004, formerly as Mass Productions. Taking much influence from the digging in the crates sampling school of hip hop, MP Records released one independent album in the summer of 2007 entitled Fresh Beetz. It is their first and only release to date. In the summer of 2009 DC and Hooks launched their second collaboration, Zeds Dead. Zeds Dead’s productions can be heard in sets from artists like Diplo, Rusko, Bassnectar, and many others. Kissy Sellout has called Zeds Dead “the future of genres…flipping genius”, and in November 2010, his label “San City High” released Zeds Dead’s first official single. The title track, “Rudeboy”, reached #7 on the Beatport Dubstep Charts only 48 hours after its release[12]. A vocal featuring Omar LinX, a Toronto-based rapper who can also be heard on “Out For Blood”, was released in March 2011. Despite having so few official releases, Zeds Dead’s many productions have garnered millions of views on YouTube, and support from some of the worlds top DJs.

Rio Bravo is a five piece indie rock-and-roll band from Wilmington NC. Rio Bravo brings something unique to a city full of hard rock and heavy metal. Their sound is something different- a blend of Band of Horses meets Kings of Leon. With the recent release of their highly anticipated album, ‘Fences’, Rio Bravo hopes to take over the nation, bringing good ol fashion music, energy, and fun to the masses.

AGNOSTIC FRONT have changed the face of music thoughout their 25 year-long career. Designer Drugs is a New York based grind house duo that is currently touring the world. The band consists of Michael Vincent Patrick and Theodore Paul Nelson. Currently, Designer Drugs is releasing new material on Sex Cult Records and Ultra Records.

Dopapod exists at the crossroads of full throttle intensity, deep pocket groove, intricate technicality, and limitless experimentation. With no regard towards limiting themselves to stylistic boundaries, the sound that emerges from the quartet both live and in the studio is as varied and diverse as the many influences that they adapt from. Their approach and commitment to complementing a distinct genre bending sound to top-notch musicianship has set them apart from many of their contemporaries and keeps music lovers eagerly returning to shows.

In the past two years, Dopapod has firmly planted seeds in music fan’s ears all up and down the East Coast and into the Midwest with their incessant touring schedule. Covering all this ground has seen the young, yet seasoned group make appearances at numerous festivals including Camp Bisco, Mountain Jam, Bonnaroo, Burning Man, Bear Creek, The Big Up, Rootwire, Strangecreek, and more. Their electric live showcase has been cultivating a fast growing, loyal fan base, and seen them share bills with artists such as Lotus, EOTO, John Medeski & Billy Martin, Papadosio, Zach Deputy, Brothers Past, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Spam Allstars, Sam Kininger (Lettuce, Soulive), and Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake, & Palmer). Jahman Brahman is a four member collaboration originating from Columbus, Ohio in 2003, and currently residing in the mountains of Asheville, NC. The musical intuition of each member overcomes the restrictions of any particular genre as they pioneer the musical trail with a sound completely their own. The name Jahman Brahman emerged from each member’s goal to achieve the ultimate state of musical cohesion; each instrument connected to one another to create a piece of music from the heart of one.

A Pato Banton concert is an event not to be missed and an experience not to be forgotten. Positive Vibrations abound with a beat to keep you on your dancing feet, while Pato delivers a message that is food for the mind and soul. Many have considered his charismatic performance as live theatre where no show is alike and audience members become participants in the experience. Pato dialogues with the crowd on a range of topics including current day events and spiritual freedom while keeping the vibes upbeat and fun!  The direction of the concert is totally based on the feedback Pato receives from the audience as there is no fixed set list.  Many have said that the positivity generated from the stage has changed their lives forever.  Sometimes Pato invites his fans to join him in a prayer circle after the show, where some have cried while sharing their stories of contemplated suicide, isolation after losing a loved one, struggles with substance abuse and how their personal connection with Pato has given them the strength to “Stay Positive” & “Never Give In.” The following Pato Banton story charts his rise from the most disadvantaged of circumstances in his youth, through a long and successful career as a world renowned reggae legend, back to his roots with a commitment to work for the benefit of young people in his community, and finally on a mission to spread the “Good News” & “Positive Vibrations” to the “Now Generation”.

TA soulful documentary about surfing as lifestyle. A young family forgoes the comforts of a sedentary lifestyle in favor of a five-month surf trip across Australia. Husband, pregnant wife, and two-year-old young daughter explore different surf spots and run in to all stripes of surfers. Key to their journey is finding people who recognize the art in surfing. It’s not so much about competitive ripping as the unique interactions between people and waves.

10×10 is a music video event created by Norwood Cheek bringing local filmmakers and bands together to make 10 music videos in less than a week. All music videos will be produced the week of the festival and brought to the screen as part of our closing night party at City Stage Theater. While bands and filmmakers make their videos, Norwood will craft a brief series of interviews with local music scene luminaries and supporters. Sunday’s event will include a screening of all ten music videos with Norwood’s mini-doc scattered in between. All ten bands will perform live the week of the festival as follows:

Norwood Cheek is a film and television producer, director, actor and writer who has worked behind and in front of the camera for 20 years. He has directed more than 70 music videos including ones for eels, she & him, squirrel nut zippers and superchunk. A small gauge film enthusiast, cheek started flicker in chapel hill and leads film and music video workshops at film festivals around the world.

This program contains 18 of the hottest music videos on planet earth, transitioned and connected seamlessly to create one unified film. Said film is then projected on any and every available wall, thus transforming it into a Visual Soundwall and encapsulating the audience inside the film.
Once inside these walls, you’re free. Here is a list of your freedoms.
Watch. Listen. Touch. Move about with rhythm or without. Interpersonally communicate. Artistically applicate. Contact with love. Engage a stranger till they’re strange no more, or perhaps even stranger. Consume solids, liquids, or gases. Actually, gasses have to be consumed elsewhere. Music has always been part of Lightnin’ Malcolm’s heart and soul. From the moment he discovered an old raggedy guitar with a couple of strings and cassette of Muddy Waters his life and the music world would change forever. Malcolm’s journey began near the railroad tracks in rural Southeast Missouri. For the next several years Malcolm would travel the world spreading his love for the blues. It wasn’t until Malcolm settled in North Mississippi that he had a musical epiphany. He was drawn to the hill country blues first made famous by Fred McDowell and later R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough and Jessie Mae Hemphill.

“I first came to Mississippi in about 1993 and fell in love with the music and the people here. It was a spiritual thing. When I heard the fife and drums and hill country music it really touched me because that was the closest thing to the music I was hearing in my head.”Malcolm eventually joined forces with blues royalty Cedric Burnside. Over the next few years, the duo released two critically acclaimed albums “Juke Joint Duo” and “Two Man Wrecking Crew.” The duo toured constantly around the globe and won the 2009 Blues Music Award for Best Debut Artist. They’ve also appeared with mainstream artists such as Jimmy Buffet and Big Head Todd & The Monsters.

Malcolm’s journey around the world has come full circle as he returns to the hill country to team up with Cameron Kimbrough, grandson of blues legend Junior Kimbrough. Cameron’s creative energy, versatile playing, combined with his natural family talent creates a perfect fit for Malcolm’s hypnotic grooves. The new material is high energy hill country blues fused with modern elements of funk, reggae, soul, and rock. The music unites musicians and audience as they interact in a hypnotic dance with everybody rejoicing to the power and joy of the music we call the Blues!

The Heavy Pets (THP) are a homegrown American band whose contagious vibe blends rhythm and blues, jazz-funk and reggae fusion with rock and roll. Called “a living, breathing, force of nature” by Relix, THP are known for powerhouse live performances and catchy tunes. The group became an instant Sirius radio sensation in 2007 with the release of their double-disc debut album, Whale, driven by hit tracks “Operation of Flight” and “Sleep.” First embraced by the jam scene for their raw talent, their cross-over sound that is showcased on their self-titled album and was dubbed a “Top 10 Album of 2010” by The Huffington Post, propelled them into the periphery of mainstream music. Major festival darlings, THP have taken the stage at Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Gathering of the Vibes, moe.down, Langerado, Summercamp, All Good, Wakarusa, Bear Creek, Mountain Jam and their namesake PetZoo.

Born in a military hospital in South America, Immortal Technique was brought to the United States in the early 80′s while a civil war was breaking out in his native Peru. The US supported puppet democracy and Guerilla factions were locked in a bitter struggle which ended like most do in Latin America, with the military and economic aid of the State Dept. through channels like the CIA. Although he had escaped the belligerent poverty and social turmoil of life in the 3rd world, he was now residing in Harlem which had its own share of drama. Growing up on the streets of New York, the young man became enamored with Hip Hop culture, writing graffiti and starting to rhyme at an early age. Although he frequently cut school and ended up being arrested time and time again for his wild behavior, the kid still managed to finish high school and got accepted to a state university. Unfortunately the survivalist and aggressive attitude that was the norm in New York City caused him to be involved in more violent altercations at school, whether it was with other brothers, false flaggers or the relentlessly racist population of an uncultured Middle America.

D&D Sluggers are Timothy David White (guitar, vocals, Nintendo DS) and C. Dustin Overcash (synth, vocals, Game Boy). Utilizing obsolete and modern technology, they create equal parts nerd-rock, hip-hop, dance punk, and VGM-composer-inspired music, incorporating infectious dance beats, provocative lyricism, and thick compositions in an easily digestable two-man outfit. DDS deliver an unmatched stage show: equal parts energy and heart, winning the opinions of the uninitiated chip-listeners and purists alike. In the end, fun is the bottom line, and DDS deliver in spades. Shinobi Ninja is a Brooklyn-based party rock circus with an explosive live show. The band’s music mashes up the sounds of 311, The Beastie Boys, Sublime, and Rage Against the Machine. This year, Shinobi has completed two back-to-back national tours, including notable performances at Summerfest, The Warped Tour, 311’s Pow Wow Festival and Nerdapalooza. The official video for their new single “Rock Hood” was recently featured on MTVU.com and the track will be included in the video game NBA 2K12 debuting October 2nd. Brody & Choch House party rockers. Rockin the party since 1986 and 1990 respectively. Brody Banks aka the “long-legged-fiesta” swoons the ladies with his tender cadence while Choch rubs em down with his jasmine and scented oil like lyrics. This dynamic rap duo are very reminiscent of a modern Kid-N-Play. With a clear throwback style, Brody & Choch have taken their fanny-packed flavor on a college house party tour from South Carolina, Duke University to Virginia Tech. It wouldn’t be shocking to see these two charismatic rappers at a house party kicking it and starting freestyle circles with their fans or fellow strangers. To say the least, their unreal natural freestyling skills won them a pass to the 2010 BET Hip-Hop Awards. Their music video for single, “4am Smoke” has been picked up by several popular blogs including, “Culture Bully”. The track itself can be found on mixtapes from the U.S. to France. Also known for their humor, Brody & Choch plan to expand “The Brody and Choch Show”, their YouTube channel which is filled with hilarious improv videos and foolery. Continuing their fast pace to becoming one of the most popular in the region, Brody & Choch perform with regional names such as Carlitta Durand (The Foreign Exchange), King Mez, Apple Juice Kid (Wale, Camp Lo), The Beast and others.
