The Soapbox is one of Downtown Wilmington’s premiere event venues. With four floors of varying sizes, The Soapbox is well equipped to handle crowds up to 600 people for your public or private event. Rates vary based on room(s) desired, amount of staffing needed (Security, Bartenders, A/V Engineers, Etc.), as well as the date, day of the week, and time. The Soapbox is located at 255 North Front Street (The Historic Elks Temple Building) in  Downtown Wilmington. Our building is divided into four different spaces:

The Soapbox Upstairs can accommodate up to 350 people for special events. With a large stage and professional in-house sound and lighting system, The Soapbox Upstairs is best suited for larger productions. For several years, The Upstairs has hosted some of the world’s leading live entertainment acts and has established itself as one of the most popular music venues in the southeast. Along with the main room, we also offer the cozy Back Bar, which provides an unmatched view of The Cape Fear River. Having served as a space for events as varied as baby showers to catered receptions, The Back Bar is great for many events by itself or coupled with the main room.

The ArtBox is located on the second floor of the building. Having undergone a recent renovation, the space has, as of late, been used as a gallery space for local and national artists to showcase their work. With a great view overlooking Front Street, the space is ideal for intimate parties or smaller scale film screenings, lectures, or performances. The Laundro-Lounge is on the street level, and is a generally very open facility. Private rentals of the Lounge are not uncommon, but events on this floor tend to be more oriented towards public events. Hosting of fundraisers, special perfomances, and casual meetings tend to occur in the lounge. Capacity for events is up to 120.

Nutt Street (Basement), recently underwent a renovation that included opening the space to a higher capacity of 99. The remodeling process also brought in a great deal of aesthetic improvements including new furniture, an improved bar, and careful implementation of a very relaxing lighting scheme. On a regular basis, Nutt Street hosts national touring comedians, as well as DJs and smaller acoustic performances.
